Slipping Into Summer

Well the girls are out of school now. Finished up a week ago from yesterday. Emily will miss Mrs. Schaefer very much....I gather all of her kids will miss her. She is a special and wonderful teacher who teaching and influence will remain with them the rest of their life. Emily has really excelled this year and we are proud of her and proud for her.

Her reading went from a about a 3.5 at the beginning of the year up into the 6's which, though a relative scale, is suppose to be the grade number. I gather she did a good bit of work at school to achieve that accomplishment.

ALittleBit enjoyed her daycare when she wasn't sick. Seems that there was a correspondence between her starting daycare and being sick a good bit. :) Go figure. She had only one timeout the whole time which was a bit of a surprise to her. One because she had not been in trouble there yet and two because we do not do "timeouts" or at least use the word so she was not sure how to take the punishment. It seemed to upset her a bit.

I also think ALB enjoyed her weekly Community Bible Study class that she attended.

Well this summer should be busy. Gale will be having surgery sometime after June 18th. Gwen will be going out to help Bob take care of Gale and at some point the girls will be going out to stay there too. Colorado is a special time and place for all of us and the time spent there with Grandpa and Grandma make special memories. It may be hard to know what the schedule will be like with the surgery and all.

I head to Tejas next week to attend a shoot, my first one since 2005, down in Southish Texas near Hondo. It is a shoot that was modelled after the one I ran a several times near Mingus. The family running it has a ranch and a personal shooting range that they have started a shoot at. I am hoping to stop at Mom's and TK's for two nights then go on to Llano to the Eaton's for day then head out early Friday morning for Utopia and the shoot. We will see how that goes.

We are all doing well and enjoying Los Alamos and our friends. We just miss our families and other friends who not here with us.

Well on this last day in May 2008 I hope to get several things done including getting my rifle loads ready for the shoot. We will see how that goes. No chance of winning but just having fun is enough. Besides I miss Texas and the countryside. Maybe some Cooper's BBQ is in store for me too. ;)

The Weather

It is more like Fall weather. One day it is warm in the 80's and the next it is cool and rainy. Almost snowing if not snowing.

After cool days then warm days then cool days it is very confusing on how to keep the house environment going...meaning turning the heat off and then back off.

I cannot remember it changing like this so close to Summer or this far into May. Very confusing.

New Blue Car

The brown van served its purpose for ease of dealing with a baby/toddler. But Elizabeth is big enough to help us out now and the van was not of that great a quality. Long story.

So here is a GMC SUV that is a nice color. :)

More Rain Overnight - Updated

Woke up this morning to more rain. A nice and steady drizzle that is getting things very wet. Looked like it had been going most of the night. We really needed.

My yard needed it badly.

Update:
After this post the weather got worse. It started raining harder and it got colder. At one point in the morning it was snowing.

Moisture!

Yesterday was a cloudy day with the threat of rain when we went to bed. At about midnight it started to rain fairly heavy. We got Donder and Blitzen to boot.

When I headed into work this morning at about 6am I looked up at the Parajito mountain and the ski hill and found snow was sitting on the slopes and trees. Wow. I am not sure I have seen snow up there this late in the spring.

Kinda cool. The rain was much needed.

Happy Birthday Dad

I told Elizabeth that it was Tx Grandpa's Birthday. She wanted to tell him Happy Birthday. I told her if she sang Happy Birthday right now that he most likely would hear her. So she quietly started singing while we were at dinner. It was very sweet.

Happy Birthday Dad! We do miss you so.

A Story About Our Mom: Florrie Adams

Telling our Mother’s story could be filled with childhood memories. Like many children we could say, “My Mom is the best mom in the whole world.” And in our eyes it would be true. We could say, “My Mom makes anything feel better.” And this would be true. We could say, “My Mom is the best cook in the whole world.” And this too, in its time, would be true.

Today though, we will not tell you about our Mom the mother but about our Mom the wife. Our parents were high school sweethearts for several years and married soon after graduation. This July they would’ve been married forty-nine years but the Lord gave them only forty-two good years accompanied with the usual ups and downs.

During their thirty-sixth year, after knowing our Dad’s health was not quite right, the diagnosis finally came as Alzheimer and Olivopontocerebellar atrophy (another brain disease.) We both were living far away at the time and were not there to comfort them when they phoned each of us this news.

For the next six years, Mom faithfully and lovingly cared for Dad and was his champion. He stayed at home as long as possible. Eventually Dad needed care that Mom could not easily give and keep her health up at the same time. Dad spent the last several years in a nursing home a few blocks from home and his care was very good. Mom visited Dad everyday and was still his champion to the very end.

It has been said that children learn to love by seeing how their parents love each other. Mom, you gave us a wonderful lesson about love by your faithfulness and love to your husband and our Dad. Thank you.

I wrote this 300 word-limit (MS Word says it is at 298) story as a contribution to a special Mother's Day section to be inserted in the San Angelo Standard Times newspaper on May 2nd. For reasons unknown the story did not make it into the section. I am guessing it was an oversight or they had too many contributions to publish them all. So I post it here for our Mom to see.
