Santa Ana Zoo: Margay

Today it was raining and cool. Since it is a holiday then Gwen had not planned on us going to Disneyland due to the crowds plus the rain and winds made it not so inviting.

So we drove over to the nearby Santa Ana Zoo. It is a very small zoo but very nice. With weather they let us in free and the animals were all inside with warm heaters.

But one of the more interesting varmints we saw was the Margay cat. It looked like an exotic house cat and its ankles turn 180 degrees. Way cool. I wonder if they can go up and down trees forward and backwards.

Abilene Zoo

We made a day trip up to Abilene to visit their small but very nice zoo. The girls are standing in front of the sign.

The giraffes loved taking crackers from visitors. Their tongues can reach 20 inches from their mouth.

Emily has had a fascination with wind farms and has wanted to get up close to a wind turbine. Leaving Abilene on 277 South there is fairly large wind farm. Emily was reading a book and we had to point out the fact were were driving right in the middle of a wind farm. She was excited.

On a side-note we saw a British double decker bus sitting on a vacant lot in Abilene. It looked like it had been there many years just rusting away. I was surprised to see it though. Right hand steer and all.
