We Miss You Mom (Gwen)!!
The drive here seemed to get exponentially longer due to my leg problems. After Lubbock I had to stop more often than before Lubbock. But we made it.
Emily had her heart set on eating the different meats at the Rib Crib in Clovis so we stopped there to try the sausage and brisket. It was not as good as I remember it last time...but Emily really like the brisket. They had sweet tea so that made it up to me in spades. The food was ok...2.5 out of a 5. Mejor Que Nada. We hit the place at Noon and it was basically empty. Not sure if the holiday weekend caused it or the honeymoon is over in Clovis. :)
We saw part of an air show as we drove into Clovis. Prop-planes were due stunts along with smoke coming out the tail. Both Emily and ALittleBit enjoyed watching them. We had to wait at the Texas line for about two train-lengths. Just as one train had passed and the caboose was clearing the road another train coming from the other direction hit the crossing so we had to wait even longer. Elizabeth enjoyed watching them go by though.
Stopped at Muleshoe to get gas.....$2.69! I thought it wouldn't get any better but upon hitting Angelo it was $2.61. A whole 30 cents less than Los Alamos. Wow...the world is not fair that is for sure. Texas Grandma says that Sams has it for $2.59.
Lubbock was hot so we stopped at the MarDels to stretch our legs. Elizabeth was a wildchild who did not want to be held or put in a cart. This was her first real road trip since she has been able to walk. She was starting to grump about Colorado City til we got to Angelo. A small nap helped that problem for a bit though.
Stopped the south side of CZ at the Grub and Suds to get some sausage to eat. Yummy. It is a must stop for food even though we are basically kicking it in the driveway so to speak. Bread, mustard, and sausage.
Saw lots of radical and wildlife. It is good to be back in West Texas that is for sure. Emily always says how beautiful it is in Texas. Good girl. :)
Turns out that the Coopers Hawks that my Mom has nesting in her thicket of Live Oaks is really a pair of Mississippi Kites. Cool.
We all slept hard last night. A bit of leg rehab and we will be off to see the sites.
