We are in the Navy!

Took a day (Tuesday) trip down to Portsmouth to see the Alantic Ocean. It is Emily's first visit to the Ocean. She loved looking at it even though there was a fridged wind blow in off the water. We saw the ferry come over from the Isles of Wight and a hover craft ferry come over.

We visited the quay (ocean walk) as Gwen calls it and wanted to go into an aquarium but they wanted 60 pounds for a family....translates into $120...Yikes. So we visited the shop. Then we walked down the coast looking at Henry VIII's defenses for the port then went over to the D-Day museum. Wow talk about some history. I had not realized that part of France like Omaha, Utah, and Juno and so forth beaches were due south of Portsmouth and a good bit of the D-Day invasion of Europe come from Portsmouth. Also did not realize how much Portsmouth was bombed during WW II.

We then headed toward the docks where the naval yard was located. We found a cafe along the "beach" that was very nice and not crowded. We had baked taters mostly and ALB had a hamburger. Yummy taters for sure.

Then we headed on down to the historic docks and the naval yards to see the HMS Victory and HMS Warrior and to visit shops and museums if we like. We walked around the HMS Victory which was the flag ship of the Royal Navy back in the early 1800's which Nelson commanded the RN against the French and Spanish at Trafalgar. The man is legendary and they have been celebrating the 200 anniversary of this battle and Nelson just last year.

Portsmouth is a beautiful place and there is alot of history to visit down there. Oh and turns out that Charles Dickens is from Portsmouth. I think Dickens is one of Steve's favorite writers.
We wanted to drop by his birth place but it got dark on us so we headed home. It is amazing how busy the motorways are at that time of day. :)

We are all well. Tomorrow we are all going to have a Thanksgiving dinner somewhere. We haven't got to see Cindy and the kids all week so hopefully tomorrow for Thanksgiving, if not sooner, we will get to see them again especially before we leave Friday morning.

We got to drive by the town of Winchester...sorta sentimental for me since the company Winchester is not making rifles anymore.
